Azo dyes are often used in 48:2 Red Pigments. Sulfonate and carboxylate substituents, which impart an offset charge to the chromophore, are commonly found in them. Colorless or nearly colorless metallic binders or salts are commonly utilized. In addition to the inorganic component, the organic dye component influences the color of the resultant precipitate. According to some theories, calcium salts were sourced from chalky soil, crushed bones and clay in ancient times. Alumina is used to dilute metallic 48:2 Red Pigments such as chromium and cobalt, with the final product containing less than one percent of alumina. An alkaline solution or water was the most easy and straightforward approach to separate the dye from the source material, typically made from wood or other plant ash. The alkaline solution would be required to extract the dye from dyed textiles.
